GENERAL SUMMARY:

  

The Associate Director, Research Portfolio Analytics/Evaluation monitors and evaluates the Alzheimer’s Association International Research Grant Program (IRGP) impact on the global research enterprise. This includes the tracking and reporting of progress being made by the projects funded by the association as well as the design, implementation and analytics of programs, and project evaluations and outcomes of investments.  They will also assess the impact of the Association’s research portfolio as well as other science initiatives to inform future programming and lead the development and implementation of innovative opportunities to demonstrate this impact.

  

This position is based in the Home Office in downtown Chicago, IL and reports to the Senior Director, Medical & Scientific Operations.

  

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  
  • Works closely with the Associate Director of IRGP, Senior Director and Director, Science Initiatives, and Association Leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for monitoring and evaluation of Association’s research activities, as well as to visually translate or represent ideas, trends, and successes of these programs.
  • Uses creative skills to translate the analysis and evaluation into exciting trends and outcomes pictorially and in written reports.
  • Works with the Science Branding Director to ensure successes are reported out and represented in marketing opportunities. PR/Communications for social media and other outreach.
  • Works with Association leadership and Med Sci staff to identify metrics and develop plans to monitor progress toward the Association’s goals and evaluate the impact of the Association’s activities, both to internal and external audiences. 
  • Oversees periodic topic-specific landscape analyses to determine areas of need and gaps within the field for strategic planning purposes. 
  • Refines and expands existing monitoring and evaluation activities to identify best practices and incorporate lessons learned about grants and programs into future programming (e.g. RFAs, proposals, Policies & Procedures, and applicant guidelines). 
  • Determines data collection needs, ensuring efficient and effective data collection, analysis and reporting. 
  • Oversees the development of evaluation instruments, gathers and analyzes data and measures and tracks impact and information, including scientific accomplishments and successes of research investments. 
  • Oversees the ongoing coding and categorization of the Association’s research grants using the CADRO for input into IADRP. 
  • Works with the team to establish definitions for internal coding systems and inclusion/ exclusion criteria. 
  • Oversees the review and coding of Association grants and programs to facilitate portfolio evaluation.
  • Monitors trends and developments in research and public health evaluation methods and their application.
  • Supports Relationship Development with donor assistance as needed and assigned by Sr. Director. Helps to collect data and represents successes of the IRGP to assist Relationship Development, Corporate Initiatives, and Chapters in promoting the Association’s science agenda for obtaining external investments.      
  • Collaborates with Chief Science Officer, Senior Director and Directors of Med Sci to develop leadership in regard to scientific workgroups in product delivery conferences, press releases, published papers, scientific meetings attendance, etc.   

                    

MINIUMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., ScD, M.D, Dr.Ph) in biomedical sciences or public health related field required
  • Minimum five years progressive experience in program evaluation and/or portfolio analysis required     
  • Experience managing projects and/or staff     
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to explain and discuss scientific and technical content in clear and concise terms to lay audiences
  • Ability to think quickly, critically and strategically, anticipate needs and proactively identify areas requiring improvement and attention
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with diverse internal and external partners, team members and stakeholders; strong networking and social skills to develop relationships and work in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment; peak grant operational periods may be stressful
  • Preferred relevant knowledge to neurodegenerative disease research and/or brain health 
  • Previous experience with independent research, grant/proposal writing, scientific or peer-review and/ or contract management is preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for the job
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%, may include some international travel
